State of Emergency is extended in Santiago and Boavista

The President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, has just announced today, May 1, 2020, that the State of Emergency which was to be lifted tomorrow, will be extended for another 12 days in the Islands of Santiago and Boavista.

It is worth noting recalled that on 17 April he had already extended it for another 15 days, which would end on 2 May. So, this is the second extension that the Government is announcing.

This measure by the Cape Verdean government is due to the fact that the pace of contagion by the new coronavirus, mainly in Santiago, has remarkably increased in the last week.

Therefore, there is an urgent need for a continuation of our relief efforts on the ground, assisting the families that are struggling to find food and the basics to survive.

LASS needs your support to continue its efforts on the ground.
